Stress-Free Christmas Shopping

It's the time of the year that everyone is looking forward to. Kids can't wait to open the presents that are waiting for them under the tree. Teens and adults alike look forward to the coming gatherings and parties. Some adults, however, find themselves anxious and stressed out when the month of December rolls in. They can't help but worry about the tasks that they need to finish before the big day. And, their biggest dread is the crowd that they need to squeeze through when the do their Christmas shopping. If you are one of these individuals, perhaps these tips will help ease the stress:

Make a list.

You should take some notes from the person who has the biggest workload on Christmas Eve -- Santa Claus. Before Christmas Eve, he makes a list and checks it twice. You should consider making one too. By writing down what you want to buy and for whom it is for will greatly reduce confusion and stress. Making this list is already half the battle in enjoying a stress free holiday, Planning ahead is a sure way to have the right gift for the right person. Not to mention that you will also be able to remember the gift for the postman.

Take one step at a time.

You don't have to do all your shopping in one blow. Parcel out your free time by shopping for the gifts in establishments near your residence or office first and plan on going to the malls when you have longer free periods like the weekends.

Don't Procrastinate!

So that you won't be pressured to finish everything in one day, try to prepare as early as you can. By doing everything ahead of time, you will be able to complete your shopping list at your own pace, giving you the opportunity to enjoy your Christmas shopping instead of dreading it. Another advantage of starting your Christmas shopping early is the fact that the malls are not as full and you wouldn't need to endure squeezing through the crowd and waiting in an endless queue.

Be optimistic!

Don't be frustrated if the last doll you wanted for your niece was sold out a minute before you got to the store. Just smile and say, "I bet there are still dolls in the next mall."

Shop online.

Now this tip is the best way to enjoy the holidays!! Give your feet a rest and let your fingers do the moving! Online stores are usually available 24 hours a day, and you have Internet access at home and at work - As long as you make sure that you don't get caught! Visiting a conventional retail store, on the other hand, requires travel and must take place during business hours.

Searching or browsing an online catalog can be faster than browsing the aisles of a physical store. One advantage of shopping online is being able to quickly seek out deals for items or services. With many different vendors, you are sure to find a greater selection online and in some cases lower prices for the gift items you need.

Set a limit.

Don't spend too much on gifts. Try to be creative by finding some gift ideas that will make your recepients smile but won't be too hard on your pockets. You should also be practical as possible. If you have a knack for creating things, maybe you can hit the handicraft store and create some masterpieces for your friends. You can also bake some treats for them in order to show off your talent in cooking. And, if you are known for your green thumb, maybe you can try getting a few cuttings from your garden and arranging them in nice pots. You can also try something brave and original like giving some money to charity and writing down your friends' names in the donor list.

Remember that splurging on Christmas gifts is a bad thing. After maxing out your credit card, you will end up worrying about how you will pay for everything that you've bought -- And, that can be very stressful!

There has never been and I don't think there ever will be stress-free Christmas shopping.

I was in Walmart today standing in line for 85 minutes, the Christmas song loop they played at the store came around to 'I'll be home for Christmas....' six times. All I needed was wrapping paper and sticky tape...I promise myself evey year...next year I'll get everything early on but it never works out.

Great HUB regards Zsuzsy

I Christmas shop all year long. I'm always completely finished by thanksgiving. That also helps absorb the cost evenly through out the year. I treat my immediate and extended family to a Christmas Day brunch at a local restaurant so my immediate family doesn't have to cook or do the crazy clean up thing. Christmas eve we go to my family, Christmas evening we go to hers usually. I have not had a stressful Christmas in years. Standing on longlines and pressures just made the holiday miserable, so I completely stopped that. For 7 years now, I have thoroughly enjoyed christmas, and so has my family. I really recommend to everyone, do what you need to do to start really enjoying the holiday season again.
